Trying surface water sports: surfing, wakeboarding, bodyboarding, ...

One of the great things about living in LA is that there are opportunities to do things that you wouldn't be able to do anywhere else. Surface water sports are an example of this. Not only are they a lot of fun but they are an excellent way to keep yourself in shape. It is certainly worth at least giving them a try.

A lot of people don't realize it but water surface sports like surfing and wakeboarding are an excellent way to stay in shape. First of all in order to do any of these activities you have to swim out to the waves. This requires a great deal of energy and will burn a lot of calories. Of course this also requires that you be a good swimmer so before you get involved in one of these sports that you make sure that you are a strong swimmer.

Water surface sports are also a great way to work your muscles and help you to stay in shape. It may not look like it when you watch but it takes a lot of effort to remain on a surfboard or a wakeboard. As soon as you do it the first time you will quickly come to realize this. It is a constant struggle to maintain your balance while the waves are trying to throw you off the board. You will quickly discover just how many muscles actually get used which is a great thing if you are trying to stay in shape. There is a reason that surfers have long and lean bodies.

One of the great things about using water surface sports as a way to stay in shape is that they are a lot of fun. One of the single biggest reasons that people don't stay in shape is that they find the work out to be tedious and boring. Finding something fun to do that will also keep you in shape will make it far more likely that you will do it. Since almost everybody who tries surfing or wakeboarding enjoys it this is a great way to stay in shape.

Obviously if you are going to stay in shape with water sports you are going to have to learn how to do them. Some like surfing are quite difficult to learn. It is possible to learn them on your own by just jumping in and doing them but you will probably find that you do better if you take lessons. There are lots of places around LA where you can learn to surf so you should have no trouble finding somebody that can teach you how to do it. Once you have the basics down it will take you a lot of practice to get good at most of these types of sports.
